The spirit of the collection

A leather card holder solves one specific problem: pulling out a bank or loyalty card without unpacking a full wallet. At Suki, four card holders stitched by hand on rue Labie share the same compact shape — Amour, Kiss, Sweety and Wind — but each carries a different leather pattern: an inlaid heart, a smooth surface, stitched marquetry, an embossed appliqué. Same full-grain, vegetable-tanned Italian cowhide, same metal attachment ring, same four card slots. The choice comes down to style, not capacity. The question that comes up most is [how many cards a card holder actually fits](/guides/guide-porte-cartes-cuir) — the guide answers it model by model.

The models

All four card holders hold exactly the same content: four cards in dedicated slots, with no separate coin compartment — this isn't a miniature wallet, it's a card holder. A metal ring replaces a zip closure and lets it clip inside a bag or onto a keyring. The pattern is what sets each model apart: an inlaid heart on Amour, smooth leather on Kiss, stitched marquetry on Sweety, an embossed appliqué on Wind.

— Choosing —

Choosing

Choosing a leather card holder starts with deciding between a card holder and a wallet. Suki's card holders have no coin compartment and no zip: it's an open format, held by an attachment ring, built for four cards and a couple of notes slipped flat, not for coins rattling around. Anyone who needs a closed coin compartment should look at the zipped wallet range instead — both share the same leather.

The second thing to weigh is the pattern. A handmade card holder from a Paris workshop isn't meant to be a plain sleeve: Amour plays with an inlaid heart, Kiss keeps things smooth and understated, Sweety assembles a marquetry of stitched leather offcuts, Wind carries an embossed appliqué. The third, often the most useful for a gift, is personalisation — an engraved card holder with initials stops being interchangeable and becomes identifiable at the bottom of a bag.

In practice, the shape slips into a jacket pocket or a small bag, or clips inside a larger one thanks to its ring — a use case a bulkier, two-compartment wallet doesn't cover as well. It's often the second piece of small leather goods someone buys, alongside a wallet already owned, to keep cards separate from cash and coins.

— Material —

Material and workshop

All four card holders are cut from full-grain cowhide, vegetable-tanned and milled in Italy — a chrome-free process using bark tannins that leaves the leather its natural grain and lets it patina rather than wear out. On Amour, Kiss and Sweety, part of the leather comes from upcycled stock depending on availability — dormant hides brought back into production. Inside, a lining protects the cards from rubbing against each other.

At the rue Labie workshop, in Paris's 17th arrondissement, every card holder follows the same steps: cutting the leather pieces, embossing or assembling the marquetry pattern, topstitching, riveting the metal ring in place, then a step specific to this format — the edge is left raw, not folded over, and hand-dyed with wax, tone on tone, edge by edge. That raw, hand-finished edge is what sets the card holder apart from the rest of the range. Nothing is outsourced — the same team cuts, sews and finishes every piece in small batches, which is also why certain colours sell out.

— Gifting —

Gifting

Compact and modestly priced, a card holder makes an easy gift to personalise without stretching the budget. At the workshop, hot-foil engraving — initials, a short name or a date, in gold, silver or blank, up to 8 characters — is done to order before shipping, for €30.

Around the December holidays and Mother's Day, the two busiest gifting moments, order one to two weeks ahead — engraving adds a step to production. A gift box comes with every order.

To put together a matching set, pair the card holder with a wallet or keyring in the same leather, from the Suki small leather goods collection — a multi-piece gift, or one more item to add to what she already owns.

Frequently asked questions

How many cards fit in a card holder?

A Suki card holder fits four cards in dedicated slots, plus a couple of notes slipped flat against the leather. Beyond five or six cards the shape starts to bulge — staying slim in a pocket is exactly why it doesn't try to hold everything.

Card holder or wallet?

A card holder suits anyone who pays mostly by card and carries little cash: slim, open, no coin compartment. A wallet, zipped, adds two compartments for notes and coins. The price differs too — €95 against €160.

Can a card holder be engraved?

Yes. Initials, a short name or a date, in gold, silver or blank, up to 8 characters — hot-foil engraving is done at the rue Labie workshop on every order before shipping, for €30.

What's the difference between Amour, Kiss, Sweety and Wind?

Same shape, same construction, four patterns: an inlaid heart on Amour, smooth leather on Kiss, stitched marquetry on Sweety, an embossed appliqué on Wind. The choice comes down to style — capacity is identical across all four.

Can a card holder clip onto a bag?

Yes. Every Suki card holder has a riveted metal ring, designed to clip inside a bag or onto a keyring so it's easy to find without digging to the bottom.

Does the leather age well?

Yes. Full-grain, vegetable-tanned cowhide develops a patina with use rather than wearing out, and the hand-dyed raw edge ages without fraying — unlike a folded edge, which can peel over time.
