The Suki Paris leather passport pouch takes its name from its size, 15.5 × 12 cm, that of a passport; its use is far wider. It is the evening pouch that carries cards, keys, a lipstick and a few notes, and the one that, on departure days, takes the passport along with the travel papers. Four models hand-sewn at our rue Labie atelier make up the collection: Dream, Bisou, Sévilla and Nikiti, each with its own motif, leather-covered, top-stitched or inlaid, on the same triangular-flap construction. The leather is full-grain, vegetable-tanned cowhide, lined in waterproof nylon and closed with a leather-covered press-stud. The models

Same envelope, same triangular flap, four expressions. Dream is the most understated: a single leather-covered heart on the flap, in five colours from camel to lilac. Bisou multiplies leather-covered, top-stitched hearts in relief on the leather. Nikiti plays on contrast, with motifs inlaid in a leather of another shade, on a burgundy, forest green or lilac ground. Sévilla, offered in a single colour, covers its flap edge to edge in leather and sets the press-stud within the leather's thickness rather than on the surface. All four share the same waterproof nylon lining and leather-covered press-stud closure.

How to choose

Choosing between the four models comes down to motif more than use: all four share the same size, the same triangular flap and the same capacity. Dream, with its single heart, is the cleanest of the four: the one you match to an outfit or a bag you already own, in five colours. Bisou and Nikiti suit anyone after a bolder motif, closer to a piece of leather jewellery, in relief for one, in contrast for the other. Sévilla suits anyone who prefers a flap fully covered in leather, in one piece.

The passport size has an advantage the name doesn't spell out: it matches what you take out for an evening. Cards, keys, a lipstick and a few notes sit behind the press-stud, no bag needed. The passport, in turn, takes its place on departure days, with the boarding pass. One pouch for two uses, from dinner to the airport without changing what's inside.

All four models are cut from full-grain cowhide, the densest layer of the hide, vegetable-tanned and milled, or, for some colours, a smooth upcycled leather sourced from specialised suppliers. The motifs are never printed: each shape is hand-cut, leather-covered or inlaid, then top-stitched, roughly ten steps before the pouch takes its final form. The closure is a leather-covered press-stud, the lining a waterproof nylon that protects cards and papers from moisture, and the edges are bound and dyed tone on tone.

Everything happens at 6 rue Labie, in Paris's 17th arrondissement. Cutting, dyeing, covering and stitching follow one after another on site, in small runs, with no subcontracting or importing. It's this atelier work that makes each leather passport pouch slightly different from the next, and that allows engraving to be done to order, one pouch at a time. The pouch joins the rest of the small leather goods made at rue Labie: wallets, card holders and keyrings, cut from the same leathers.
